Now, I am fairly diligent about carrying a shopping bag with me at all times. I became committed to the idea whilst living in Europe, where bringing your own bag to shop is pretty much a requirement, not just a eco-friendly gesture. I had decided to travel light to the Architectural Digest Home Design Show this weekend and found myself with handfuls of trade show swag and no bag. Not good. So I stumbled over to nearest booth for respite and as luck would have it, landed in the trusty hands of OBOE or One Bag One Earth. Seeing that I was two seconds away from a majorly embarrassing swag-alanche, Sam from OBOE generously gave me one of their fabulously stylish reusable bags.

I am working on a huge project; curating a new designer showcase for Design Week NYC 2010 (more on this later) and I tell ya, it’s kicking my ass. I have started channeling my inner Wonder Woman. Around my wrists, VAMBRACES for deflecting bullets (paper cups) and around my waist, the trusty Lasso of Truth (belt to old sweater). I twirl around my room, chanting ‘Wonder Woman’~ I feel invigorated and ready to kick some ass. Thinking of trying it in costume. Stay tuned.

Have you ever watched that show Survivor Man on the Science channel? This outdoor enthusiast is dropped off in the middle of nowhere all by himself, with very little gear, no food, water, etc… Basically he puts himself each week in a new survival situation and films himself err… surviving. Each show he’s in a different location: could be middle of the African plains, a Georgia swamp or the Canadian Rockies. Wherever he goes you know it’s going to be a remote place known for it’s harsh environment. He brings random things with him on the trip, usually whatever he has in his pockets at the time. One show, I think it was the one he did in the swamp he used a stale Doritos chip to make a fire. Bad Ass.

It’s been a little while since I posted a new, Things I Want to DO. I haven’t forgotten, I have just been to busy DOING the Things I Want to DO! I am happy to report my Danish studies have been going well and for those of you who pay attention to my blogging efforts, you’ve probably noticed I have been posting a whole lot more on all five blogs, Yes, I now have 5 active blogs! I started a new site, NYCLookBook this week. It’s a street photo blog of NYC fashions. While this project wasn’t on my list per se, I was motivated to start it after putting more work into my blogging ‘empire’. So it seems that my TIWTD posts are actually stimulating me to doing some of the things I have been meaning to do for a long time.
This week’s Things I Want to DO is Travel. I shot this photo about two weeks ago. It’s one of the first TIWTD, I wrote this one the same day I wrote and photographed the other TWITD posts. At that time I had no plans to go anywhere. I had decided to postpone my return to Copenhagen out of a desire to stay put in NYC for the fall and winter. While I yearn to have a bit more stability (staying in one place for awhile) I couldn’t help feel that little travel bug wiggling inside me, itching to go somewhere. After a casual chat with my friend Dan about the possibility of him attending Copenhagen Design Week with me, a trip started to form. And with the departure of some beloved Danish friends, we both decide to ‘just do it’.

People, do you realize how much time it takes to blog? A lot. You can spend hours working on a post. And with 5 blogs to write and edit, it’s a 12-hour day sometimes. Key word-sometimes. Let’s face it, life in the big city is hectic. There always seems to be some fun and exciting event to go to. News flash!! Fun is a time thief. But let’s face it, I could be a bit more diligent in updating all of my blogs. I work pretty hard on Modern Urban Living. I do check my comments and stats on it everyday. But there are times I can go a week or two with no posts (yikes!). Modern Urban Style is just starting to develop and the readership grows stronger so it encourages me to post more. And Modern Urban Baby now has a writer so I don’t really worry to much about it’s day to day posts but there is still a lot of work to be done on the backend-(updates, new themes, advertising).
Sooo…in the second installment of, “Things I want to Do”, I profess my desire to work towards putting all of my (working) energy into my blogs. However, after almost two years of blogging, experience has taught me if you’re going to do something like this, you have to have structure. I have started to create that by simply comprising a list of what a typical productive day in the life of a problogger would look like. I have had some help, via various Probloggers out there and have begun to develop a format. I will keep you posted on my progress, err…well I guess you will be able to tell whether or not if I am doing it or not. :> Perhaps I will post it here to inspire other bloggers.
I am trying something different and I hope my readers like it. It’s a new series I like to call, “Things I want to do”. I thought it might make an interesting project and would like to share it with you here. The first one is entitled, “Learn a Language”.
Why do I wish to learn to speak a language that only 5 million people in the world understand? Perhaps the easiest explanation is this: I always wanted to learn an exotic language. When I was younger I thought, it would be Maldivian or something weird like that. But the universe chose Danish for me. My ties to Danish has grown over the years. I lived there for a period of time and made quite a few Danish friends and may one day return there to live. I am happy to report after 3 months in Denmark, I can understand quite a bit. It is the writing and speaking that is hard. My Danish friends make fun of my efforts sometimes but I carry on undeterred.
