Do the Danish eat danish?

bageri

Of course not, that would be cannibalism! Actually, the Danish eat what they call Wienerbrød which means Vienna bread. The pastries are descendants of the croissant, which first originated in Vienna. The Danes took the pastry, added their own special touch and violá, the weinerbrød or danish was born. A word of advice; never ask a Danish baker for a danish. ;> Bakeries are everywhere in Denmark. It’s not hard to find one at all because most have this sign above the store.

Here is a pic of two weinerbrød I picked up this morning. Yes, those are seeds on top of the pastry. I am happy to report that they were quite tasty.
